The short answer is yes, but the landscape has changed significantly. The federal 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, which used to offer up to $2,000 on qualifying heat pumps, expired on December 31, 2025 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Heat pumps and HVAC equipment installed in 2026 no longer qualify for that credit.

That said, Decatur area homeowners still have real money on the table through TVA EnergyRight and local utility programs. Here’s what’s actually available to you today.

TVA EnergyRight Rebates

Because Decatur gets its electricity through Decatur Utilities, a TVA distributor, you have direct access to the TVA EnergyRight residential rebate program. These are direct rebates, not tax credits, so you don’t have to wait until April to see the money. Southeastern Mechanical Services is a member of TVA’s Quality Contractor Network, which means we handle the rebate paperwork as part of the job.

Current TVA EnergyRight rebate amounts for qualifying equipment:

  • Heat pumps: up to $800 back
  • Ductless mini split heat pumps (17 SEER2 or higher): $800 rebate
  • Geothermal heat pumps: $1,500 rebate
  • Central air conditioning (15 SEER2 or higher): up to $400 back
  • HVAC tune-up: $50 rebate
  • Duct sealing, air sealing, and attic insulation: separate rebates available
  • Smart thermostat enrollment through Decatur Utilities: $65 signup bonus plus up to $65 per year

If you live outside Decatur city limits and get your power from Joe Wheeler EMC, you’re also eligible for these same TVA EnergyRight rebates since Joe Wheeler is a TVA distributor too.

ADECA Home Energy Rebates (Coming Soon)

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is building out the federally funded Home Energy Rebates program. When it launches, rebates are expected to range from $2,000 to $8,000 per household based on income qualification and energy savings. ADECA has not announced a launch date yet. We’re watching this one closely because it will be significant for our customers once it goes live.

TVA EnergyRight On-Bill Financing

Not a rebate, but worth mentioning because it stacks with rebates. If you’re a Decatur Utilities, Athens Utilities, or Hartselle Utilities customer, you can finance a qualifying system with $0 down and pay it back on your monthly electric bill over terms up to 10 years at a 9.99% fixed rate. You can combine this financing with a TVA rebate on the same project.

How to Take Advantage

The simplest path is to start with a free estimate. When we come out, we’ll tell you exactly which rebates your project qualifies for, handle the TVA submission for you once the job is done, and walk you through financing options if you need them.
