No Contract Required. Call Us When You Are Ready.

We recommend two maintenance visits a year for a home system: one in the spring before cooling season, and one in the fall before you need heat. No contract required, no signed agreement, no monthly billing. Give us a call when you are ready and we will get you scheduled.
We know some companies build their business around locking customers into maintenance agreements. That has never been our approach. If you want your system serviced, call us and we will take care of it. If you would rather wait a season, that is your call too.
And if it has been a few years since anyone looked at your system, do not wait for the right season to roll around. Call us now and we will service it now.

What We Do on a Spring Maintenance Visit
Spring service is about getting your system ready for an Alabama summer. The work centers on the outdoor unit, because that is where most cooling performance is won or lost.
Clean the condenser coil
This is the most important thing we do, and it is the step most often skipped. Every bit of air that cools your home passes across that outdoor coil, and all season long it pulls in dust, pollen, grass clippings and road grit. Once that buildup coats the fins, the coil cannot shed heat properly. Your system runs longer, works harder, and costs you more to do the same job.
Check the refrigerant charge
A system running low on refrigerant loses cooling capacity, and you will notice it most on the hottest days when you need it least. Low charge also usually means there is a leak somewhere, so finding it early matters.
Inspect the electrical compartment
We open the electrical compartment and look for signs of overheating on the wiring: discoloration, scorching, loose or corroded connections. Overheated wiring is a fire risk and it is also an early warning that something else in the system is drawing more current than it should.
Test the capacitors
Capacitors start your system’s motors, and they are one of the most common failures we see during a Decatur summer. We take an actual reading and compare it against the manufacturer’s specification. A capacitor that is drifting out of spec has not failed yet, but it is going to, and it is far cheaper to replace on a scheduled visit than at nine o’clock on a Saturday night in July.
Clear the drain pan and condensate lines
Your air conditioner pulls a remarkable amount of water out of Alabama humidity, and all of it has to drain somewhere. We check the pan and lines for blockages and treat the pan with tablets that prevent algae growth. A clogged condensate line will back up and cause water damage, and it is one of the more preventable service calls we run.
What We Do on a Fall Maintenance Visit
Fall service shifts the focus to your heating system so you are not finding out about a problem during the first cold snap. Call us at 256-686-3444 and we will get you on the schedule before heating season starts.
Free Maintenance Service on New Equipment
When SMS replaces your home’s heating or cooling equipment, we cover your second-year maintenance service at no charge. A new system does not need maintenance in its first year of operation, so year two is when it matters, and that one is on us.
This applies to residential customers.
Priority Scheduling for Existing Customers
Customers we have worked with before move to the front of the line. During a July heat wave or a January cold snap, that matters more than anything else we could offer you.
Commercial and Industrial HVAC Maintenance
Everything above describes how we handle home systems. Commercial and industrial work runs on a different schedule. A rooftop unit on a restaurant, a system keeping a server room within tolerance, or the equipment in a production facility cannot wait for a seasonal visit, and the right service interval depends on the equipment, the runtime, and what happens to your operation if it goes down.
Our technicians are factory trained and we keep specialists across a range of equipment types. If you manage a facility in the Decatur area and want to talk through a maintenance schedule that fits how your building actually runs, call us at 256-686-3444 and we will work it out with you.
Why Seasonal Maintenance Is Worth It
Two honest reasons.
It catches the cheap problems before they become expensive ones. A capacitor drifting out of spec, a coil losing efficiency, a condensate line starting to close up. All of these are minor on a scheduled visit and all of them turn into emergency calls if nobody looks.
It protects your warranty. Most manufacturers require documented professional maintenance to keep parts coverage valid. If your system is still under its parts warranty, and many systems installed in the last decade are, skipping maintenance can put that coverage at risk right when you would need it most.
