In 1885, James Trane decided to open his own plumbing business in La Crosse, Wisconsin, but the bitter cold winters soon had him thinking more along the lines of keeping the area’s homes warm and cozy. With the help of his son, who had just earned a degree in mechanical engineering, the duo invented a new low-pressure heating system that was proudly dubbed the Trane vapor heating system. The Trane Company became official in 1913, and the company’s invention of the convector radiator in 1923 began to establish Trane as a leading innovator in the business of heating products.
In 1931, Trane became a pioneer in the invention of air conditioning, and the company is considered one of the country’s must trusted providers of heating and cooling products in existence today. Trane has also received numerous awards that include those from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency throughout the years.
